Breast cancer sufferers 'denied life-saving drug'
From: Della Petch, Burdale Close, Driffield, East Yorkshire.
MY mother-in-law died of breast cancer.
Many more women today are suffering with the same disease, highlighted by the recent case of Kylie Minogue, and many of these, thankfully, live long and happy lives afterwards.
Yet more women could be saved, but are refused lifesaving drugs. I am appalled that the women in Scotland are given Femara (a lifesaving cancer drug) on the NHS, yet women in England are denied it. This decision was made while the Scottish MP, John Reid, was in charge of the English NHS. The funding is direct from British taxes, controlled by another Scottish MP, Gordon Brown, the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
This will not change, unless we ourselves question this discrimination and demand equal treatment for our sisters, mothers, grandmothers, daughters and ourselves.
An English life should not be deemed of lesser value. All life in Britain used to be equal. Not anymore.
Pushing the boundaries
From: J Evans, Norton, Malton.
WHEN are we going to stop using the words United Kingdom in referring to Britain? There is still a kingdom, but it is no longer united. In fact, the four nations which comprise Britain are less united now than at any time in the last 300 years.
Do the public servants in Whitehall intend ever to complete devolution and give England its own governing body?
At present there is a ridiculous situation where Scots, Welsh and Irish members of Parliament have their separate governing bodies but can also vote on English affairs, while English MPs have no vote on issues relating to outside of their own country.
Such blatant discrimination should have been reported to their Race Relations Board long ago.
Have you say at the yorkshire post

Nah the shear caves in THORP would be better, amount of radiation involved would make it a horribly painful death. _________________ Unsheath your swords all Englishmen,

Power to the English
From: K Young, Preston.
THE examples of the misuse of the term UK and Britain, and the betrayal of English health patients by English MPs in the letters by Della Petch and J Evans (Yorkshire Post, May 25) is widespread and deliberate.
New Labour's nations and regions agenda is responsible, and I am at a loss as to why any English MP, regardless of political party, continues to put up with it.
We have a Scotland Parliament and Wales Assembly, both subsidised by English taxpayers.
Now they are being allowed to discriminate against English people in their countries. In the case of Wales, they will soon stop English people from obtaining cheap prescriptions, and Scotland will soon charge English students tuition fees.
They also have their own tourist boards while England's equivalent was abolished last year and replaced with Visit Britain.
No doubt a British tag gives under-employed Scots and Welsh MPs a say in tourism in England.
It appears that England is invisible to Whitehall and Westminster except as a source of revenue.
It is why we need our own parliament. What do your readers think _________________ Lord Hugh Cecil 1918

I am sick and tired of being duped by the Scots at Westminster. They are there for the good of their own people and for the furtherance of their own fortunes. However they pale into insignificance compared to the English MPs who sustain them and have no qualms about acts of treachery toward the English voters that supported their quest for Westminster.
We the English would now like a voice in the country we sustain with our finances. |

Sent mine:
I came across a letter written to the Yorkshire Post on the internet and felt compelled to write this letter.
The letter was regarding the appaling situation where English patients are denied potentially life saving treatment that our neightbours north of the border enjoy at our expense. The writer explains that sufferers of breast cancer in Scotland are given the drug Femara on the NHS whereas English patients are denied the use of this very effective but expensive drug.
While health is a devolved matter in Scotland and therefore under the jurisdiction of the Scottish Parliament, it is still funded almost entirely by central government funds. The vast majority of taxes paid into the Treasury are from England as it comprises 5/6ths of the population of the UK. The Barnett Formula then ensures that Scots receive a disproportionately amount of these taxes to appease the Scottish nationalists. Under this formula, a Scottish person will recieve an average of £1,300 of central government spending per year more than an English person, paid for out of English taxes.
Why should English people be expected to subsidise the rest of the UK but be denied things such as life saving drugs because there is no more money in the pot for the English? This is a disgusting state of affairs that can be summed up in three words - "state sponsored discrimination". We need an English Parliament looking after English people, not minority rule by a Scottish Raj that has no sense of moral responsibility towards its English subordinates. _________________ English first, British second
