Dear God, that's enough to make anyone raging mad. Unbelievable that we have allowed the Scots to turn out country into such a shambles and that english people would actually go along with it and carry out these orders on their behalf Shocked

I would suggest if they are offended by a national flag they can't be citizens of this country so should be deported.

This is one of those stories that is both astonishing and "hardly surprising" all at the same time. One of the many problems, as I see it, with the modern police force is that they are allowing themselves to be used as tools of harassment. Their rules probably deny them any reasonable room for flexibility. The correct response to the complainant should have been "madam, to feel in some way intimidated by the national flag of the country you are living in indicates a significant failure on you part to integrate. I will not allow myself to be used as a tool for your sensibilities in this case."

But it`s perfectly legal to fly your national flag in this country, they can`t tell you to take it down, if you`re not breaking any bylaws. This is either an example of urban myth in print, or West Yorkshire Police trying to re-establish their credentials as "most ludicrously politically correct authority in Britain". Rolling Eyes

Did you see the reply saying she should claim that she isn't flying a national flag because England hasn't been a nation since 1707.

If it is not a national flag then what is it?
Play them at their own stupid little game and say the flag is a christian symbol and that it is religious hatred to make you take the it down! After all, one of the reasons for being asked to take it down is that it offends 'other religions!

If the report is accurate, and I can only assume it is, then all I can say is English/British politicians have gone absolutely stark raving mad in formulating and enacting these kinds of laws. For someone to complain that the sight of a house flying or bedecked in the national flag of the country one is living in and for legal action to be taken over it is just plain absurd. Haven't English cops got better things to do with their time? I'd be more inclined to investigate the Asian complainant as subversive to the English/British state. I read "urban myth" in one of the other posts. I hope the BBC report is just that.

How can they arrest him?

The st george cross is a home flag of the UK and you do not need planning permission unless its a permnant flag pole to fly the English flag.

That's discrimination against us in our own country.

Can anyone imagine someone in Canada or the states complaining because someone is flying the national flag outside their home?

I know that nearly every house in Canadian street's has a maple leaf fluttering outside of it.
